Microsoft Adds New Competencies Print E-mail

Microsoft has added three new competencies to its partner programme to enable member partners to take advantage of emerging market opportunities and to ensure they have the resources, tools and support to offer customers.

The software giant's partner programme now includes Business Intelligence, Hosting Solutions and Unified Communications competencies.

Partners will be migrated to new competencies if they are part of former specialisations in related areas.

Updates have also been made to two existing competencies. The Business Process and Integration competency has been changed to Service Oriented Architectures and Business Process, and Microsoft Business Solutions has reduced the exam requirements necessary to join.

David Simpson, commercial director of Microsoft Gold Partner Softcat, said, "Adding competencies demonstrates the emergence of these new solutions in the market".

Victor Aberdeen, sales and marketing manager at distributor Blue Solutions, applauded the move.

"Being endorsed through Microsoft's position will help to bring unified communications from the home to the business", he said.

Care Micro will of course be striving to meet these competencies.

Losing what matters most? Print E-mail
Lots of fibre - but which ones work?

We all know that accidents can happen, usually when they are least expected, least welcome or least helpful. We all know that most accidents are preventable and, although we may not like to admit it, in general most "situations" can be avoided. Take your business internet connection for example. We all like to think that it will always be there. But will it?

A careless bit of local authority roadworks, a technical fault within the telecoms network, an equipment failure at your premises - any of these could stop your connection. What effect would it have on your business? Could you still function? How much would it cost you? Your business relies heavily on your internet connection so much these days that the consequences of loss do not bear thinking about – email, web, vpn, voip, credit card authentication, online trading and so much more can stop in a second.

The problem with Tape Backups

These days, most enterprises understand that the only way to ensure data protection and IT continuity in the face of disasters is to establish a remote recovery site a significant distance from main and branch offices.

As a result, every night many companies back up their office systems to tape and transport the tapes anywhere from fifty to several hundred miles away.

What these organisations haven't recognised is just how vulnerable their data and business remain, even after such a huge outlay of administrative effort and cost.

Data hoarding on Desktop PCs hurts business productivity

Research Reveals How New Technology Is Creating Worrying Forms Of 'Silo' Working
New 'micro-silo' mentality creates headaches for businesses as users live in information wilderness.

Research launched from database experts FileMaker reveals that the increasing IT skills of the office worker, coupled with the ease of use of modern technology is creating new and worrying 'micro-silos' of data amongst UK SME business, putting productivity, compliance and the bottom line at risk.

Questioning over 100 people responsible for IT management within UK businesses with 250 employees or less, the research highlights that whilst the technology available to UK businesses has never been better, end users are taking IT policies into their own hands. In doing so they are creating dangerous micro-silos of data within their organisations, typified by crucial documents being locked away on individual PCs / email accounts and creating a wilderness of data outside existing policies and processes.
